BCSBusters Week #2 Match-ups in the SEC
September 7, 2007 by bcsbusters
The SEC begins 2007 where it left off last season, as one of the best conferences in the country. After this weekend, it may be clear that the SEC is truly the best. LSU should beat Virginia Tech, barring a barrage of turnovers and special teams blunders (which could happen as this is where the Hokies hang their hat), and Auburn should drill South Florida. I don’t think this one will even be close. The Tigers are better than they are given credit for. The first game, as Lou Holtz said last weekend, gives a coach the most nightmares because you never know if your team will be ready. One thing I do know is that the Tiger Defense kept them in the game last week against a much improved Kansas State team, and I think we can all agree that the Wildcats are better than Elon - a team South Florida struggled mightily with.
Key Conference match-ups between Alabama - Vanderbilt and Georgia - South Carolina should wet the appetite of many SEC fans. It may be a crazy finish this year as you have three solid contenders in the East and the West looks to be wide open as there a too many questions between Arkanas, Alabama and Auburn. For the life of me I can’t seem to give LSU the run-away nod, due to the Les Miles factor. At some point this year, he is going to screw up big-time and it may cost the Tigers the championship. Watch out for Bama, as they have slipped completely off the national radar, and have sufficient talent for Nick Saban to work his magic.
Missouri should handle Mississippi - possibly in a route - depending on which Tigers team actually shows up, and potential upsets may come in the form of Kent State and Southern Mississippi - two notorious BCSBusters of the past. However, I predict the SEC will run away with it this weekend, losing only to Missou.
Predictions:
LSU 23 - Virginia Tech 14
Auburn 31 - South Florida 17
Alabama 38 - Vanderbilt 24
Mississippi State 21 - Tulane 17
Missouri 47 - Mississippi 17
Florida 62 - Troy 9
Tennessee 44 - Southern Miss 21
Georgia 27 - South Carolina 21
Kentucky 38 - Kent State 20
The SEC should go 6-1 in non-conference action this weekend.
