Compare The Polls in Week #3
September 17, 2007 by bcsbusters
It’s getting late in the wee hours of Sunday evening and I wanted to get this out tonight so you can have all day tomorrow to critique the various polls, as compared to the BCSBuster Poll. The purpose of this article is for fan interaction so feel free to drop us a comment regarding your take on the Week #3 version of the BCS Controversy. Please post your rants respectfully and I will follow this up on Monday with a rather scathing evaluation - something to look forward to!

Thanks for the comment on TNB last week!!! GLAD WE BOTH PICK THE ‘CATS!!!
Great win, nice to see the BCSBusters have ‘em at #14!
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, thanks for the kind words and KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK HERE!
Also, you’re the only poll with the smarts to put LSU where they rightfully are.
I have been saying for a VERY long time that the polls are not dynamic enough.
Just winning should NEVER guarantee you won’t fall a few spots in the rankings.
If you’re going to have polls so early in the season, basically ensuring certain teams they will NOT be in the BCS talk at the end of the season regardless of how well they do, then the polls need to be less concrete.
If USC barely gets by and LSU destroys their opponent, there should be a changing of the guard. In general, teams are not judged by the performance, it seems, as much as their judged by merely whether they won or lost…
You told me the swing factor would be turnovers…well it was 2-0 in favor of Kentucky and helped us jump out to a 13-0 lead!
Good call.
Thanks, for the insight. I would consider the first four in my poll to be pretty even and the only way to determine the best if for each of these programs to square off. We know that will never happen with the current arrangement.
LSU is #1 simply because they have been a little more dominant on the defensive side, but then again - they really haven’t played a solid offense yet. Yes, VTech has been good in the past…but this year? Get real, they have been very average (maybe even a little below average) thus far.
Once again, the polls are based a teams traditional status in the game and how they are projected and speculated to finish - it is not based on game day performance thus far in the season.
This is my 4th year doing and poll and considering that I’m a part time scout for professional baseball, I have streamlined my evaluation process. I tape all the games involving the top-25 and I watch the games, often with three tv’s going at one time. My poll is based on a careful evaluation - not a quick glance on sportscenter and based on the jaded opinions of gameday, pregame and halftime shows.
Stewart Mandel in his new book pretty much summed up the poll voting process. If you haven’t read the book - I highly recommend it!
