The Second Quarter Begins: Week #4 Match-ups!
September 21, 2007 by bcsbusters
As we enter the second quarter of the 2007 NCAA Football season, I thought it would be fun to put together a friendly prediction challenge among the blog writers across the country, especially here at the Bleacher Report. Here’s how this works: Predict the score of the various games for this upcoming Saturday, September 22, 2007.
- If you predict the winning team, give yourself 2 points.
- If you predict the the winning team, and the spread, give yourself 2 points.
- If you predict the spread and are within +/- 3 points, give yourself 1 point.
- If you predict the winning team and the exact score, give yourself 5 points.
- Keep a tally of your own score and email me at bcsbusters@comcast.net so I can keep a tally.
By the way, I don’t pretend to be any kind of an expert at this, I just thought it would be fun and would add a little more drama, not that we need anymore, to Saturday’s mayhem.
I’ll use tonights Miami - Texas A&M tilt as an example. I didn’t get this done in time as I am multi-tasking several projects and simply ran out of time. I predicted Miami would win 31 - 21.
- Since I picked Miami to win, I earn 2 points.
- The final score was 34 - 17 Miami (17 point spread), and I was not within +/- three of the spread = 0 points.
- Although I was fairly close to the final score, I didn’t pick it exactly = 0 points.
- If I would have predicted Miami to win, with a score of 38-21, or 45-28 (for example), I would have earned 2 points since I predicted the winner and the spread, and I would have also qualified for a bonus point since I was within +/- 3 points. So to predict the winner and the spread actually garners 3 points.
If I would have predicted Miami to win with a score of 34-17, that would be worth 5 points, +2 points for picking the winner, + 2 points for predicting the winning team and the spread, + 1 bonus point for being within +/- 3 points for a total of 10 for that particular game. Hope that wasn’t too confusing. If you would like to include this article with your own predictions, feel free to copy and paste (with a hot-link to BCSBusters of course) directly to your blog or website. I run this challenge with a few of the teachers and coaches I have worked with and it is a lot of fun. Send me an email before the Oklahoma-Tulsa game to validate your picks. Should be another great Saturday of football action. How bout them Canes tonight - a good bounce back game for Coach Shannon!
